Excursions

Excursions are an important part of each English Language student's program.
Mercury runs student excursions regularly.
Our excursion programs are fun, exciting and educational as they:
- help to build student knowledge of Australia's natural environment.
- help to build student knowledge of Australia's cultural heritage
- to provide opportunities for authentic and meaningful spoken interaction
outside the classroom
- to provide opportunities for students to interact with written English in
a less familiar context outside the classroom
- Lessons tailored to your language level with worksheets provided before
and after visit
Some of the excursions we run are
- Sydney Aquarium, Sydney - At Australia's largest Aquarium, the variety
of aquatic life will astound you - from cold southern oceans to the tropical
waters of the Great Barrier Reef, from rocky shores and estuaries to the slow-moving
rivers of the dry, flat plains of the interior. Nowhere else in the world
will you find grey nurse sharks and stingrays passing overhead. View cute
fairy penguins and playful seals fearsome crocodiles, platypus and freshwater
fish.
- Sydney Tower and Skytour - Sydney Tower takes you a staggering 250
metres above Sydney, commanding breathtaking vies of one of the most beautiful
cities in the world including the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. Skytour,
the largest simulated ride in the Southern Hemisphere, takes you on an amazing
virtual adventure through Australia's Cultural history and geography
- City Farm - City Farm is 600 acre working farm 50 minutes from the
Sydney CBD. Enjoy a unique hands-on Australian experience and you will be
able to use your English language skills to communicate with friendly City
Farm staff.
A typical day on the Farm would include - a visit to Farmyard Nursery to touch
and feed baby animals also experience a Cow Milking demonstration, where you
can try out your cow milking skills, sheep shearing show, watch the skill
of our stockmen in the City Farm Stockwhip Show. Witness Australian Sheep
Dogs rounding up the sheep with ease and efficiency, Take a look at the Koala
Show where you can take lots of photographs. Or, you might like to visit the
walk-in Kangaroo enclosure where you may walk among and feed the Kangaroos.
Picnic lunch or BBQ lunches available to complete your visit.
- Powerhouse Museum - The Powerhouse Museum is the largest museum
in
Australia with a range of permanent exhibitions as well as constantly changing
temporary exhibitions.
